fruit portraits 1997-1998

The family moved to Stockholm in 1994.  I had finished my studies in Luxemburg a couple of years back and had my first exhibition in Paris but I understood that I had to find my own language in painting. I missed the french food markets and the ambiance that comes with that. I went to see a Warhol show at the Museum of Modern Art where I saw his banana silk screen. That was it! I twisted my fruits into portraits, some got very body like. I started to do the way I often paint backgrounds, painting with a knife and I portraited the fruit blown up as a photo. I painted with a certain transparency and finnished off varnishing the motive. I also painted a banana of course.

At that time I exhibited at different Art clubs and then I get my first exhibition at Alex Wiberg Galerie, 1998. I was very pleased for him because he got his first review in Svenska dagbladet newspaper and I was pleased as well.
